        Une herbe annuelle. Les tiges sont dressées et courbées vers le haut. Il peut mesurer entre 80 et 100 cm de hauteur. La tige a de nombreuses branches. Il forme des racines aux nœuds. Les nœuds sont agrandis et ils ont un anneau rouge à la base. Les feuilles sont alternes et en forme d'épée étroite. Ils ont des glandes. Les feuilles se rétrécissent vers leur base. Les feuilles ont un goût poivré lorsqu'elles sont mâchées. Il y a une stipule ou des structures en forme de feuille à la base de la tige de la feuille. Cela a des poils. La tige de la feuille mesure 2 à 5 mm de long. La lame est en forme d'épée et mesure 2 à 8 cm de long sur 0,5 à 2 cm de large. Les fleurs sont en épi mince. L'épi est étalé le long de la tige. Il a tendance à se pencher. Les pousses fleuries peuvent mesurer 17 cm de long. Les fleurs individuelles sont petites et blanches. Il existe 2 sous-espèces adaptées aux zones tempérées et tropicales{{{0(+x) (traduction automatique).
