Un cactus. C'est un arbuste tentaculaire. Il atteint une hauteur de 30 à 90 cm et une largeur de 1,2 m. Les segments de tige sont aplatis. Ils peuvent mesurer 38 cm de long. Il y a des épines féroces de 6 cm de long en grappes. Les fleurs sont jaune vif et peuvent être rouges à l'intérieur. Les fruits sont en forme de poire et rouge pourpre.
