Un arbuste dressé. Il pousse en partie attaché ou poussant sur d'autres plantes. Il atteint 3,5 m de haut. Les tiges sont nervurées et généralement sans feuilles, sauf sur les branches fleuries. Les fleurs sont très petites et jaunes ou vert jaunâtre. Parfois, ils sont blancs. Les fruits sont petits et en forme d'oeuf. Ils sont succulents et mesurent 2-3 mm de diamètre. Un buisson peut avoir des milliers de fruits. Le fruit passe du rouge orangé au cramoisi foncé. La graine est extérieure au fruit.
