Une plante herbacée vivace. Il atteint 30 à 100 cm de haut et s'étend sur 30 à 80 cm de large. Il forme de grosses touffes. Les tiges sont creuses et dressées. Les limbes des feuilles mesurent 15-30 cm de long et 1-2 cm de large et sont plats. Ils sont vert bleuâtre avec une nervure médiane blanche. Le capitule mesure 40 cm de long. Il s'étend sur environ 40 cm de large. Il n'y a que quelques épillets. Ils mesurent 0,3-0,4 cm de long et sont verts à violets.
