Une paume élancée. Le tronc peut mesurer 18 m de haut. Le tronc peut mesurer 10 à 20 cm de diamètre. Les feuilles des jeunes plantes ont quelques segments largement espacés. Chez les plantes matures, les feuilles sont presque circulaires avec des segments encombrés. Les limbes des feuilles peuvent mesurer 2 m de diamètre. La tige des feuilles mesure 1,5 à 2 m de long sur 3 à 4 cm de large. Ils sont minces et arqués et épineux à la base. Les fleurs se trouvent sur des panicules qui pendent parmi les feuilles.
