Un petit arbuste. Il atteint une hauteur de 1 à 2 m. Les tiges ont des épines le long d'elles. Les feuilles sont opposées et ovales. Ils peuvent être émoussés ou pointus. Les feuilles sont coriaces et maintenues fermement. Les feuilles sont d'un vert brillant et mesurent 1 à 3 cm de long sur 0,5 à 1,5 cm de diamètre. Les fleurs sont blanches et ont une odeur douce. Ils ont 5 pétales et mesurent 0,6 cm de diamètre. Ils se produisent en grappes dressées à l'aisselle des feuilles supérieures. Le fruit est une baie ovale et noire.
