Un grand arbre à feuilles persistantes. Il atteint 15 m de haut. Il a un seul coffre. Ils sont plus courts dans les régions à faible pluviométrie. Le tronc est souvent tordu lorsqu'il est cultivé dans des mangroves. Les contreforts s'étendent à travers la boue. L'écorce est brun orange vif et lisse. Il peut avoir des contreforts et des racines aériennes. L'écorce est vert jaunâtre. Les feuilles sont alternes et ont tendance à être pointées vers le haut. Les feuilles sont vert foncé et ovales.
