Un arbuste ou un petit arbre. Il atteint une hauteur de 3 à 7 m. Les branches sont légèrement anguleuses. Ils ont une épaisseur de 1,5 à 2 mm. Les tiges des feuilles mesurent 6 à 8 mm de long. Le limbe de la feuille est en forme d'épée et mesure 5-14 cm de long sur 2-2,5-4 cm de large. Ils sont en papier ou légèrement coriaces. La feuille est légèrement inégale sur les deux moitiés. La base est en forme de coin et il y a des dents le long du bord. La tige fleurie est à l'aisselle des feuilles. Les fleurs sont blanches ou jaunâtres. Le fruit est rouge et devient noir pourpre.
