Une herbe de la famille des citrouilles. C'est un grimpeur élancé. Il a des tiges grimpantes annuelles. Il pousse jusqu'à 6 m de long. Les tiges sont sillonnées et velues lorsqu'elles sont jeunes. Les feuilles sont profondément lobées et ressemblent à des doigts sur une main. Les bords des feuilles ont des dents peu profondes. La forme des feuilles peut varier sur une seule plante. Les fleurs sont mâles et femelles séparément sur des plantes séparées. Les fleurs mâles sont jaunes et en grappes. Les fleurs femelles sont petites, jaunes et se produisent séparément.
