Un petit arbre touffu. Il pousse environ 8 m de haut. La tige mesure 15 à 50 cm de diamètre. Les feuilles sont composées et mesurent 20 à 33 cm de long. Les feuilles ont des folioles le long de la tige. Il y a généralement 7 à 13 dépliants. Ils sont étroits et en forme d'épée. Il y a de petites dents le long du bord. Les jeunes feuilles sont grises à brunes. Ils deviennent verts mais jaunissent en automne. Les fleurs sont petites et vertes. Les fleurs mâles ont environ 20 étamines et se produisent dans les chatons. La fleur femelle a un style à 2 lobes et se présente sous forme de quelques fleurs à l'extrémité d'une même brindille.
